This year, we are adding Lunch Table Presentations to the conference. We had so many submissions that we tried to fit in as many as we could and this was one way to do that. We also notice that first timers and folks who come alone can sometimes have trouble finding ways to break into conversations and groups that are full of strangers. Lunch Table Topics allows some networking, connection, and conversation that folks can more easily join and hopefully feel more comfortable knowing what is being discussed. So this is our experiment for Saturday's lunch. Lunch is from 1230-130pm in the Mississippi Room. Presentations will be about 30 minutes in the middle of that, allowing time for people to get their food and find the table(s) they want to go to. Tables will be marked so that you can find them. We hope you enjoy.
Influencing Media's Portrayals of the Bi+ Community Presenter: Knox Inman, DVM Ages: 15-17& 18+ | Community Building & Leadership, Intersecting Identities
Many of the problems the Bi+ community deal with are related to general society's negative attitudes about us. In this workshop, we will discuss ways to influence Media's (including but not limited to literature, TV, movies, theater, and news) portrayals of the Bi+ community. By making changes here, we can improve general society's opinions of us, and thus alleviate some of the issues we currently face.
Speaking Up for Bi+ Support and Inclusion Presenter: Mary H. Hoelscher, Ph.D. Ages: 11-15, 15-17 & 18+ | Community Building & Leadership, Intersecting Identities
Are you already knowledgeable about the unmet and unique needs of bisexual people? In this session, we will plan for challenging unexamined biphobia and bierasure in and out of LGBTQ serving organizations. We will coordinate efforts to build capacity for speakers who are ready to facilitate learning opportunities for others. Bring your perspectives -- and your calendar!
Outdoor Lawn Games Facilitator: Shane Meyerink Ages: 10 & up | Health & Wellness, Community Building & Leadership
Weather permitting, join us for some casual lawn games like badminton, Kubb, bocce ball, or frisbee. Bring your friends! Participants will meet in front of the registration table on the 3rd floor of Coffman.
*Other topics might pop up on the fly for folks to discuss during the lunch breaks.
